Remember when the TV repairman would arrive at your home with his simple parts caddy? Back when television sets used many of the same replacement parts. Televisions today are much more complicated, modern sets are filled with elaborate circuit boards and complex electronic circuitry. Many sets today contain small intricate parts that are only found in that one particular model.
Manufacturers today want to produce a television at a very low cost. Quality is no longer the main consideration, they have no interest in extending the life of your television. Why would they?
Dealers really don’t care much about what they sell as long as they have something to sell. If a dealer goes to a manufacturer with a defective television, neither wants to talk about service or support. The manufacturer is only interested in how many new products the dealer is going to buy. The dealer is only interested in seeing you in their store every day with checkbook in hand.
When a television is repaired under warranty the authorized service center is not fairly compensated by the manufacturer. The authorized service center must then turn around and pass that added expense on to you, that is an added expense you do not want. Dealers and manufacturers today provide much less training and support for their products. Dealers just want to sell you a new TV, they no longer want to be involved in television repair.
An authorized service center may imply that they are a notch above an independent service center. Maybe that was true, back in the day when a warehouse full of service manuals and substantial manufacturer technical support was required. However, today with the advent of the internet along with hundreds of independent service centers and TV repair technicians collaborating on private technical websites across the country, small independent service centers can thrive. How much will it cost to repair your television? Maybe before you go to the manufacturer, authorized service center, dealer, or discount chain store you should call an independent service center.
